KAIROS Mass Blanket Exercise
June 1, 2016 @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Join us for a Blanket Exercise, an interactive experience that explores the impact of the history between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Without knowing our shared history, we cannot come to reconciliation.
All are welcome, no matter your background or age! The church is wheelchair accessible.
Invite your friends, family, and co-workers. Bring an open mind and heart, and meet others who are committed to truth and reconciliation.
If you are able, please bring a blanket.
Supported by: KAIROS Regina; Saskatchewan Conference of the United Church; All My RelationsNetwork; Christ Lutheran Church; — and more to come!
For more information or to add your group’s name to the supporters list, contact: Julie Graham, Saskatchewan Conference education staff: email@example.com
We moved this event from the Saskatchewan Legislature grounds because Budget Day coincides exactly with our timing, making logistics much more challenging. We also recognize that many educators and others are feeling great anxiety about deep budget cuts that may be announced June 1, and we are in solidarity with them. A Legislature event will be considered at a later time.
Last year, during the closing of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Ottawa, over 400 people gathered in front of Parliament Hill for a mass Blanket Exercise. They committed to continuing to tell the story of residential schools as part of their commitment to reconciliation.
This year, local groups will lead Blanket Exercises at provincial and territorial legislatures across the country, in honour of the TRC and the continued work that needs to happen in order to see reconciliation happen across Canada.
