UR STARS Event: Gender and Sexual Diversity – Storytelling with Laura Budd

March 23, 2016 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 pm

Laura Budd and her wife Patricia have been married for 25 years and a couple for 27. They have two children, Alex (22) and Jake (13). They live on a farm near Kelliher, Saskatchewan. Laura is currently working as a consultant specializing in Gender and Sexual Diversity. She has a Diploma in Agriculture from the U of S (1985) and holds a C.C.A. (Certified Crop Advisor) designation from the North American Agronomy Association. She spent 30 years as a primary producer prior to devoting her time and energy to raising awareness of Gender and Sexual Diversity and considers herself a student of life.

On Wednesday, March 23rd, Laura will share stories about her experience coming out as a transgender woman, including the support she received and the challenges she faced. She will also discuss her role as a Gender and Sexual Diversity consultant with Prairie Valley School Division and share strategies teachers can use to create safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ students. This event is open to U of R students (all faculties), educators, and community members. Coffee and snacks will be provided and everyone in attendance will receive a certificate for participation.
