Luther MultiFaith Chaplaincy Presents: An Evening of Slam Poetry with Ahmad Majid
February 6, 2016
Doors open at 6:30pm
Slam poetry is a type of poetry expressing a persons personal story and/or struggle usually in an intensely emotional style. Very powerful, sincere, and moving.
Ahmad Majid has had a fascination with words and has been surrounded by hip-hop music for as long as his memory serves. After being born and growing up in Canada, he moved to the Middle East for two years when he was 10 years old. When he came back to small town Saskatchewan, the societal changes towards Arabs, Muslims, and War were all very extreme. After being exposed to Def Jam Poetry by his older brother, he felt inspired to begin his writing process and sort out his often upset and frustrated thoughts. He began producing his first poems and verses when he was 14 but it wasn’t until he was 18 that he brought his words to life on stage. His style combines clever rhyme schemes while still addressing important social/political and issues of human rights. He is a three time slam team member (2011, 2013 Saskatoon, 2012 Last Chance Slam) and a CFSW 2013 Finalist.
